Achievements and Interests

·         My second year in costume construction gave me the chance to work with a 3D technician and build a mask that was featured in my “final major project”.  I picked up many skills from this opportunity from vacuum-forming to sculpting. This helped further my knowledge in the props side of my course.

·         I have had the opportunity to travel to many different museums and galleries (London V&A, Manchester Gallery of Art, ENO, St. Fagans Folk Museum and Salisbury Museum) to visit costumes. I find the contextual content within costume very interesting, these visits aid me in expanding my understanding of costumes.

Personal & Key Skills

·         Can confidently cut and construct patterns and costumes, using various construction techniques. I feel I have had a great deal of experience that will support my professional career in the near future.

·         I can work very well within a team, I have found that communication is paramount and time management is essential.

·         I can adapt to any working environment, this was evident when I worked with companies in different areas of the industry (Stage and film/television) on my work placements.

·         Competent level of I.T. knowledge, I can demonstrate multiple skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the Internet (creating blogs and communicating).

Specialist Skills

I have had the opportunity to work with a range of different people from the industry. I have learnt a lot of skills from this. I have had to learn the basics of fitting room etiquette to the intricate detailing of Tailoring. I had the opportunity to work on many tailored pieces within my final major project and various pieces throughout my three years at University. I have Learnt how to do running alteration correctly and how to problem solve while doing so. I have also been trained to cut patterns from scratch, following the pattern cutting  process through to making the final garment. I have had a lot of experience in this area and can confidently cut and make a garment to a good standard. I have made many garments from tutus to waistcoats and hats to corsets using various techniques.
I have also had the opportunity to play a big part in buying fabric for many of the productions I have been involved in, not only that but I have also had the chance to buy and source garments for the productions that I worked on. I have had a lot of training in various areas of theatre and film and more so in construction. It’s these skills that I hope will help me to continue on in a clothing orientated industry and help to develop my career further.
